Our Beloved Joan Borden is Retiring

The Board of Directors of Orangeville Show Chorus (OSC) announce that our esteemed Master Musical Director, Joan Borden, will be stepping aside in April 2026. This announcement is imbedded with sincere gratitude as well as a deep sense of emotion. Joan’s dedication, inspiring leadership and profound contribution to OSC over the years has been extraordinary and highly respected.

Joan joined the Sweet Adeline organization in 1979. Her lengthy and successful history with OSC includes being a charter member, bass section leader, chairing and participating on many committees including choreography, costume and scripting; as well as sitting on the Board of Directors. Joan has also performed in many competing quartets during her tenure. She advanced from her role of Assistant Director, into Co-Director and ultimately into the current role of Musical Director in 2014. She achieved the status of Master Director 600 in 2009.

Joan Borden is a well-known and highly respected Director in Region 16 and beyond, having served on the Regional Management Team as Director Coordinator as well as coordinating the Director Certification Program. She has also coached choruses and quartets throughout the Region over the years, sharing her knowledge and experience in her patient and considerate teaching manner, that so very much defines who Joan is. Joan has a lengthy pedigree in our community as a leader in education and local performances. She has shared her knowledge and musical gifts co-directing Theatre Orangeville Youth Singers, and also can be credited with sharing her love of four-part harmony with youth groups through programs such as Acappallooza and Young Singers in Harmony.

OSC has had many successful years under Joan’s creative direction and unwavering commitment, therefore astutely aware that her departure as Musical Director will leave very large shoes to fill. As OSC looks ahead to the future and its continued growth, our search for a new Musical Director will begin immediately.
